It all comes to pieces

You'll remember, of course, the gentleman from my high school, who also goes to Cap? Well, on the weekend I was dismayed to discover his face on a Cap College Billboard, somewhere around Hastings & Clark. EVERYWHERE. I just saw him again, right before I came in here.

Weird.

Secondly, cell phones. It's fascinating to watch an otherwise shy person talking to their significant other, or just a good friend, on a cell phone. The body stance changes. The eyes become more focussed, and the gaze more confident. The cell phone, in effect, draws the shy one into a world where they are cared for and valued, their shyness having been won over by acceptance.
Bizarre.

Thirdly, according to Genesis, man has dominion over the earth and everything in it (Man as in Mankind, although the principle I'll soon blog can be applied in the man/woman relationship too). We are to govern over this 'earthdom' the same way God does over his Kingdom. Okay. So what does that mean?

Well, how does God rule over us? With a death grip? With his own interests superceding ours? NO! He is a King who loves to serve, whose every action is in the best interests of his people, his Kingdom. He serves in love, wanting to expand his reign, not for power, but for the fullness of life he knows those within his Kingdom will enjoy.

We don't rule like that. We rule to keep our cars well-fed, destroying the air. We rule to have our coffee and lattes just right, keeping half the world starving for food. We rule to separate the rich from the poor, with first class lounges, cars, homes, schools, and careers. We rule out of selfishness and greed, resentful when anyone dare suggest that what we do is wrong. We expand our kingdoms to the destruction of others, all for the glory of he or she who has the most toys.

But we all die empty-handed.

That's the kind of Monday it's been. G'day.
